A Netflix original- Guilty, celebrates a fine performance by the star cast–Kiara Advani, Taher Shabbir, Gurfateh Singh Pirzada, and Akansha Ranjan Kapoor. Directed by Ruchi Narain, the attempt of highlighting a relevant social point, with a creative edge is plausive and upright.
The story revolves around the protagonist ‘Nanki Dutta’, a free college youngster who is a musician and lives her utmost life with her group of friends in the band, and her boyfriend VJ. After a raging party on the occasion of Valentine’s Day, a young woman, Tanu Kumar basically from a small town accuses the college heartthrob, VJ of sexual assault. While the case becomes a sensation, loyalties and friendships convert into a bone of contention.
Guilt tries addressing the conversation through a story of rape allegation set against the backdrop of #MeToo. The story also explores the themes of sexual consent, victim-blaming, emotional and mental well-being and who is truly ‘Guilty’.
Summa summarum, the movie talks about the message “No means No” and makes some extent obvious that sometimes eyewitnesses can be blind to the toxicity and seldom we ourselves are guilty of overlooking the much visible truths and facts.
