Hostages

Sudhir Mishra’s Hotstar show Hostages have been an edge-of-the-seat psychological crime thriller that delves into the engaging intricacies that push people to make the decisions and behave in the ways they do. Tisca Chopra as Dr Mira Anand and SP Prithvi Singh by Ronit Roy are the highlights of the show.

The show is fast-paced and taut, and also the script heeds logic and reason and asks its viewers to take giant leaps of faith. The premise is pretty compelling. Within the primary few episodes itself, the characters get themselves established.

Dr Mira Anand (Tisca Chopra), is liable to operate the Chief Minister of Delhi, Mr. Hands (Dalip Tahil). When she reaches her home, she, her husband (Parvis Dabbas) and her 2 children are held as hostages by Prithvi Singh (Ronit Roy) and his gang of three other members. They tell Dr Anand to kill the CM and that they will release her family. All she should do is dabble some drops of an unidentifiable poison on her scalpel before the beginning of the surgery, and nobody can clasp the blame on her. But can Mira, a reliable and faithful surgeon, agree to kill a patient knowingly?

Every story requires some respite of skepticism in the interest of shrill twists and unforeseen turns. The show counts high in the Indian context because we desis love our big, climactic moments and very tricky plots.
