Ten episodes long web-series called Ashram are starring Bobby Deol as a lead role of a self-proclaimed baba. Bobby is marking his debut with MX player’s Aashram, directed by Prakash Jha. Apparently, Prakash Jha is considered as the king of the controversies in Bollywood. Aashram is no exception to that. Right from being in contention for shooting secretly for the series in Uttar Pradesh, to after-trailer release controversies affecting the viewers’ sentiments.
India is a secular and democratic country. Everyone has got their own right to speak and to follow whichever religion they want. Also, India is a country that promotes “unrealistic trusts” in many self-proclaimed baba’s. However, I am actually not the correct person to say anything about this because putting up our opinion might affect people and their emotional, religious, and spiritual beliefs. The only thing I am trying to get focus on is whether all of these self-proclaimed saints (all religions) are actually worth blind-believing.
There are many other millennials who happen to raise a voice against how the blind beliefs of Indian baby boomers have drastically affected many lives. Putting your trust in something is absolutely beautiful, but blindly trusting someone could lead to disasters. It is ethically good to believe in God and religion, but getting influenced by ills from these sadhu’s is even worse.
Raising controversies for such sensitive topics in India through the medium of entertainment is not new. It is prolonged. The disputes, where Bobby Deol and the entire cast and crew of Aashram are facing, are precisely the same as the controversies raised for “Oh My God, starring Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar” and “PK starring Amir Khan, Anushka Sharma, and late Sushant Singh Rajput.” If you closely witness the relationship between the movies, both are trying to bring the “other way round” picture of “kaands” happening pan India in the name of religion. Bobby Deol starring Aashram is also trying to bring the real faces of these self-proclaimed babas in front of the audience. So, it is bound to create the buzz.
This time, Prakash Jha, director of Aashram, tried to play safe and released a short disclaimer video on Youtube. The video depicts that they highly respect each religion and don’t mean to defame the obvious. Besides, Bobby Deol starring Aashram, When Sadak 2 dropped it’s trailer fake’s got anxious when Alia Bhatt, in one scene, said, “In Fake Gurus Ki Wajah Se Mene Kisi Apne Ko Khoya Hai. But somehow, the high got vanished and a war against Nepotism took over.
